About The Work

The precise, often photorealistic paintings of Mark Sheinkman depict ghostly ribbons of pure form—swirling, connecting and overlapping on large linen canvas. Reminiscent of muscle sinew, firing neurons, or optical illusion, each piece is built up using a process of layering and removing graphite from a white oil ground. Inspired by artists like Jackson Pollock and Brice Marden, Sheinkman continually experiments with visual effect, creating a tension between the photographic nature of his pieces and their handmade origins.
