Matthew Porter Bio

About The Artist

Matthew Porter's muscle cars soaring down San Francisco streets embody the definition of 1970s macho, while his images of the great Hindenburg floating over the American West depict the convergence of two time periods in world history. As a photographer Porter works with grandiose subject matter, creating fantastical scenes that look like they might be from an action movie or a strange dream. Porter is also known for his portraits, landscapes, and assorted photographs of beehives.

Porter hails from Pennsylvania and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY, traveling the country to find the next backdrop for his work. He studied at Bard College and then continued at ICP-Bard for his MFA in Advanced Photographic Studies. His photographs have been included in New York Magazine, Modern Painters, and Exit.
