Mawuena Kattah

Over a number of years since joining Intoart in 2007, Kattah has developed a significant body of work derived from photographs of her close and extended family and friends from Ghana. Using photographs spanning a number of decades she captures these images in her watercolour paintings. Primary research and field trips are a key inspiration to her work, ranging from personal material through to visits to major museum collections. Trips to Brixton Market, South London offer vibrant patterns of African batik fabrics that inspire large paintings on canvas. Mawuena Kattah has exhibited in a range of contemporary art galleries and museums including Whitechapel Gallery, Tate Modern, Studio Voltaire, and MAD Musée in Belgium.
