Michael Todd Bio

About The Artist

Drawing inspiration from tribal African art and Japanese Zen traditions, the artist Michael Todd creates sculpture in a variety of materials, influenced by Minimalism and Abstract Expressionism. In Tantric Circle VII (1985), for instance, organic forms pierce the large circle, with the painted steel components seeming precariously bound together. As the artist himself has stated, "I try to humanize geometry and minimalism to give it emotional weight." Todd has seen his work exhibited in a number of private and public collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum.
