The photographer Nick Haymes brings a diaristic style to his explorations of youth culture and the awkward years of young adulthood, tending to capture his subjects seemingly unawares or in mid-gesture. His work is candid and intimate, and often documents the domestic life of his own Russian-American family. There is a lightness and immediacy common to Haymes's images, from the spaghetti-covered face of one portrait to the cheeky grinning boy showing off a bloody nose in another. A curator as well as a photographer, Haymes has organized such shows as Lovesody" (2012)—featuring gallery mate Motoyuki Daifu— and Minor Cropping May Occur (2011), both at Lombard-Fried Projects. Haymes has also created editorial work for Vogue, the Journal, i-D, and other publications.Read Less
