About Aspen Art Museum

The Aspen Art Museum is a non-collecting institution presenting the newest, most important evolutions in international contemporary art. AAM's innovative and timely exhibitions, education, and public programs, immersive activities, and community happenings actively engage audiences in thought-provoking experiences of art, culture, and society. Its lively exhibition program aims to connect museum visitors with contemporary art and provide access to the artists who make it. Highlights of the program from the past five years include solo exhibitions by Mark Bradford, Fred Tomaselli, Aida Ruilova, Karen Kilimnik, and Doug Aitken.

Founded in 1979, AAM is accredited by the American Association of Museums and a member institution of the Association of Art Museum Directors. Currently located in a converted, 9,000-square-foot hydroelectric plant, AAM is planning a new 30,000-square-foot environmentally sustainable building, designed by celebrated architect Shigeru Ban. The museum's annual artist in residency program, which was established in 2008, aims to further AAM's goal of engaging the larger community with contemporary art through artist contact. In the heart of the country, the Aspen Art Museum is at the center of the international contemporary art world.
