About Brooklyn Academy of Music
BAM is the home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas. BAM embraces the visual arts through collaborations with artists, exhibitions, commissions, and the creation of prints and special editions for fundraising purposes. In the past, BAM has commissioned renowned visual artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Willem de Kooning to produce Next Wave Festival posters. Today BAM continues to highlight visual artists by featuring their works on the cover of BAMbill. Since the 1980s, BAMart has exhibited hundreds of artists, including Louise Bourgeois, Chuck Close, Mary Heilmann, Alex Katz, Wangechi Mutu, Yoshitomo Nara, Jean Shin, Leo Villareal, and William Wegman.
Over the years, BAMart has cultivated a rich history of programs and special projects as well as thriving relationships with the visual arts and local artistic communities. Each year, BAMart develops an extensive program, including curated exhibitions, community events, and collaborations with local artists and arts institutions. Additionally, BAMart offers audiences and supporters the opportunity to purchase exciting new works through the annual BAMart Silent Auction—taking place each spring and featuring works by hundreds of both emerging and established contemporary artists—as well as BAM's Photography Portfolios and numerous print editions.
