Patrick Demarchelier Bio

About The Artist

Though the work of French fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier has graced the covers of virtually every major fashion magazine, including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Elle, and Glamour, he never received any formal training, describing his only qualification as "the school of life." Known for his spontaneous, playful images, Demarchelier is considered a master of lighting and composition, capturing both the beauty and the personality of his subjects, who include celebrities such as David Bowie, Madonna, and the late Princess Diana (making him the first non-British photographer invited to photograph a member of the Royal Family.) In 2008, Demarchelier was the subject of a retrospective, Patrick Demarchelier: Images and Fashion, at the Petit Palais Museum in Paris.
