About the Work
Paul Henry Ramirez creates a playful, curvilinear composition in Untitled from the Space Addiction Series using pigmented inkjet print. Lines float and curl like doodles in the margins of a school notebook and then squirt in various directions, forming smaller fountains of colors and small, exploding circles that fall into the lasso-like web of pink scrawls below. Untitled is organic and spontaneous but carefully composed and harmonious.
About the Artist
Paul Henry Ramirez creates biomorphic paintings and combines spontaneity with careful execution in his compositions. As a talented young artist of Hispanic descent growing up in Texas, Ramirez had the option of painting so-called “Indian” or pioneer landscapes but instead moved to New York City to pursue his own style. Ramirez is playful in his work, creating colorful shapes and lines with bold colors reminiscent of Takashi Murakami, but Ramirez’s work derives more from Minimalist influences. His forms are organic in nature and often contain slight sexual innuendoes in their curvilinear forms.
