Phil Chang Bio
About The Artist
Los Angeles-based photographer Phil Chang has been known to demonstrate the distinction between making art and exhibiting it. Often using unfixed photographic paper in his artwork, Chang has used photography of the "unseen" as a means to jar the medium out of established norms. By not fixing the image, Chang makes images that are themselves a reflection of the moment, impermanent, and fleeting. This results in visually imperceptible differences, proposing the notion that photography can produce meaning without direct visual representation. Chang's work has been exhibited at multiple galleries throughout California, New York, Texas, and Costa Rica garnering awards such as The Ahmanson Foundation Award and the California Institute of the Arts Grant.
