Phil Collins

British video artist Phil Collins examines the relationship between the camera, its subject, and the subject's viewer. His often aggressive and self-reflexive videos and photography appropriate documentary or low-budget television styles.  Though his videos are ironic, they have been known to offend their audiences. At times, Collins has even gotten political with such works as dünya dinlemiyor, for which he filmed Turkish subjects against a flowery background singing songs by The Smiths in an exploration of the ways that British culture may be transposed onto a foreign nation.  

In 2006, Collins was nominated for the Deutsche Börsche Prize and the Turner Prize. Collins has also had solo shows at SFMOMA and the Aspen Art Museum.
