About The Work

In the 1960s, artist Richard Artschwager wrote, “Sculpture is for the touch, painting is for the eye. I wanted to make a sculpture for the eye and a painting for the touch.” This mixed media piece, made of Formica on Oakwood, brass hardware, glass, mirror, rubberized horsehair, Untitled (BAE# 3) is in line with that original impulse—the tangible elements playing with the concept of two and three-dimensionality, through intricately rendered details.
