Robert Wilson

An illustrious theatre impresario, visual artist, and patron of the arts, Robert Wilson is known for pushing the boundaries of the disciplines in which he works, which include theater, dance, sculpture, drawing, and furniture design. He has been described as "[America]'s—or even the world's—foremost vanguard theatre artist." In 1968 he founded the performance company Byrd Hoffman School of Byrds, for which he created such major operatic works as The King of Spain and The Life and Times of Sigmund Freud. Wilson has collaborated with a range of talented artists including William S. Burroughs, Lou Reed, Marina Abramovic, and Allen Ginsberg, though he is perhaps best known for his collaboration with American composer Phillip Glass, Einstein on the Beach.
