Ron Jude
Ron Jude was born in Los Angeles but was raised in rural Idaho. This urban / rural dichotomy persists in his photographs, which incorporate portraits, landscapes, found images, and at times, pictures he took as a teenager. Jude has created series from images taken from a single small town newspaper, creating abstracted, fictional narratives out of images freshly embedded in collective memory. Whether found or original, Jude’s images speak to human relationships with natural or built American environments.
Jude has had solo exhibitions at Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, New York, Dodd Art Center at LaGrange College in Georgia, Salt Lake Art Center in Utah, Prichard Art Gallery at the University of Idaho, Boise Art Museum in Idaho, and the Nexus Contemporary Art Center in Atlanta. Group exhibitions include the Aperture Foundation Gallery in New York, Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago, Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, Photographic Resource Center in Boston, and Museum of Contemporary Art in Atlanta. Jude is the recipient of the Light Work Photography Grant, the James D. Phelan Award in Photography from San Francisco Camerawork, Aaron Siskind Foundation Photographer’s Fellowship in New York, and American Photography Institute National Graduate Seminar Fellowship in New York, …
