Rory Donaldson Bio

About The Artist

Scottish artist Rory Donaldson creates sculptures, installations, wall-based works using a variety of mediums, including embroidery, found postcards, drawing, painting, and photography. In his recent work, Donaldson explores the place where painting and photography overlap, translating photographs into works resembling color field paintings using a unique digital process. He takes a microcosm of his photographic compositions and amplifies form and color to create a visceral, abstracted visual experience.

Donaldson's work is informed by his training as a painter in Scotland and Ireland as well as his participation in the Whitney Museum of Independent Study in New York City. Donaldson has also exhibited at locations including Hunter College in New York and the Royal Scottish Academy.
