Rupert Deese Bio
About The Artist
California-born Rupert Deese finds the inspiration for his abstract paintings and etchings from natural habitats and wildlife. His spare and meticulous work often reflects the shapes and movement of what he observes in nature, such as the watersheds of the rivers in the Sierra Nevadas, the study of which helped him create the rhythms and colors for many of his paintings. His compositions are both minimal and organic, and they reflect Deese's personal experience with nature rather than a literal interpretation. His work has been shown at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art in Connecticut, the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, and the New York State Museum in Albany, among others.
