An artist whose mixed media work is highly conceptual and who constantly challenges himself to work with a wide range of materials, Ryan Gander also challenges his viewer to engage with his environments instead of playing the "lazy spectator." Often compared to a storyteller, Gander creates evocative installations consisting of photography, sculpture, drawing, and film. Many times, the installations consist of minimal objects that convey a partial narrative containing both fictional and nonfictional elements. The contemporary art viewer traveling through Gander's intriguing exhibition spaces has no choice but to fill in the blanks.
