Sadie Barnette

The work of artist Sadie Barnette deals in the cultural currency of contemporary west-coast urbanism. Unconfined to any particular medium, Barnette has made works ranging from glittery hologram boxes, to crisply painted white stereos overflowing with dirt, to written and self-designed books. As the artist has stated, "We feel the need to be self-reflective and figure out the future by looking at the past. At some point you have to go to the abstract place where none of these words even makes sense. Where language stops, images take off, and where images stop, abstraction begins. The 'glitter space,' as I call it, is just that point, or the edge of the cliff." In 2012, Barnette was featured in the exhibition Fore at the Studio Museum in Harlem.
