Sarah & Charles

Creating highly conceptual and immersive installations, sculptures, videos, “soundscapes,” performances and photography, artist duo Sarah & Charles explore notions of relation, scene and the so-called “fourth wall,” as popularized by French philosopher Denis Diderot (1713-1784). At times humorous and nonsensical, the projects of Sarah & Charles challenge contemporary audiences to engage with illusion, and spectatorship. Projects and commissions such as They might be giants and The sensory room, “are a series of orchestrated visions, composed with audiovisual scores and embodied sketches based on form and musicality.”

Sarah & Charles have exhibited and performed their work in a number of venues including D+T Project Gallery, Brussels, Netwerk, Aalst, Belgium, Nest, The Hague, The Netherlands, Komplot, Brussels, Broelmuseum, Kortrijk, Galerie van der Mieden, Antwerp, Brakke Grond, Amsterdam. Their films have been screened at the 2016 SI Festival, Sifnos, Greece, the 21st Short Film Festival, Leuven, Belgium (2015), 42nd Film Festival Ghent, Vooruit, Ghent (2015), and the 32nd International Festival of Films on Art, Montreal (2014).
