Shawn Kuruneru

Applying consistency and repetitiveness, Shawn Kuruneru creates meditative drawings and paintings. He uses generic pens in order make ink-dot drawings that cover entire surfaces, often leaving only small areas blank. Using dots is a way for Kuruneru to revert back to a basic form of mark making and to talk about drawing as the way to understand the beginning of an idea. He makes works without any preconceived pattern or composition in mind in order to create a sense of wonder that allows viewers to connect the dots and find their own images.

He has exhibited at Ribordy Contemporary in Geneva, Brand New Gallery in Milan, Blackston in New York, and Night Gallery in Los Angeles. His work has been included in group exhibitions at The Drawing Center in New York, Museo Britanico Americano in Mexico City, Battat Contemporary in Montreal, Quebec and Art Metropole in Toronto.
