Shinique Smith is a Baltimore native who creates artwork based on consumerism and personal narrative. Her work explores graffiti culture and meshes it with Japanese calligraphy and collage. Smith’s work was recently shown in BRIGHT MATTER, a large scale survey at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston in 2014 . Smith has also been shown at the Denver Art Museum, Denver, The Studio Museum in Harlem, The National Portrait Gallery, Washington D.C., The New Museum, New York, Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin, PS1/MoMA, New York, MOCA North, Miami, and The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, Wisconsin. She has received awards and fellowships from The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation, The Joan Mitchell Foundation, The New York Foundation for the Arts, Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.

Shinique Smith currently on view in a solo exhibition, Wonder and Rainbows at The Frist Center for the Visual Arts through January 2016.
