Signe Jais

Working with a multitude of found and collected materials, Danish artist Signe Jais creates collages that combine flat planes of color, geometric shapes and images taken from magazines. Often favoring cars, airplanes, globes, satellites and spacecraft, she layers her clippings to create various dimensions upon cardboard, wood veneer or acrylic. Exploring concepts of time, travel, movement and visual linearity, Jais pulls inspiration from Pop art, 1950s commercials, and scientific symbols, expanding representations of space.

Signe Jais has shown her works in a number of two-person and group exhibitions including Galerie MøllerWitt, Aarhus, Kunsthal Nord, Aalborg, SPECTA, Copenhagen,Galleri Specta, Copenhagen, and Clausens Kunsthandel, Copenhagen. She has received a Statens Kunstfond grant from the Danish Agency for Culture in 1998, 2001, 2003 and 2005.
