Stefan Sehler

Stephan Sehler is known for his reverse paintings on Plexiglas panels that match technical virtuosity with conceptual rigor. His subjects range from minimalist targets and stripes to photorealist renditions of foliage and landscapes. The viewer doesn't directly see the painting per se, but rather its inverted image through reverse glass. For this reason, Sehler's paintings are easily mistaken for photographs or pressed specimens. In terms of questioning ideas of perception and spectatorship, Sehler's technique is often likened to Gerhard Richter's Mirror paintings.

Sehler has shown widely in Germany and has regular solo exhibitions at Parker's Box in New York. His work is in the public collections of Deutsche Bank, Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf, and LMHV, France.
