Steve Bishop

The work of London-based artist Steve Bishop deals in the conceptual and aesthetic use of objects, using and remaking “pre-fabricated” items to explore their social and cultural significance. Consumer products and branded artifacts, including mouthwash and perfume bottles, are an important part of Bishop’s practice, as they carry a narrative of intention and collaboration. Shifting between the formal and art historical elements of handmade and mass-produced objects, Bishop is interested in the “visual and personal language of produced things.”

Bishop has shown his mixed media work in a number of galleries and institutions including, AND NOW, Dallas, Texas, Supportico Lopez at 6817, Los Angeles, Carlos/Ishikawa, London, Koal, Berlin, David Risley Gallery, Copenhagen, Brand New Gallery, Milan, and Zabludowicz Collection, London, among others. He has created a number of independent projects including I See Them, Do You?, an online project for Bomb Magazine in 2014 and Focus II, publication produced with Fondazione MACC, Sardinia, where he held a residency in 2013.
