    About The Work

    Susan Collis creates illusions. This piece, from the artist’s 2014 show of the same name, creates an illusion to highlight the overlooked and unseen. One of a series of works that at first glance appear to be something they are not, I would like to invite the viewer II does just that, invites the viewer to look beyond initial assumptions. Closer inspection reveals that it is actually a meticulously rendered pencil drawing masquerading as careless ink painting, reaffirming Collis’ long-standing suggestion that things are more complicated than they initially seem.
