Tony Ingrisano

Tony Ingrisano creates geometric drawings that reflect the influence of cartography and forms of mapping. His practice is informed by a variety of systems, from river circuits to aerial views of cities to power grids. Ingrisano begins by taking as his focal point a single spot on his paper, and then allows the work to evolve, creating a complex configuration of lines and forms, and often incorporating collage elements. As the artist has stated, he is interested in nature's "part to whole" relationship, reflected in his work through the creation of cohesive, singular compositions from a complex series of individual parts. Further exploring the relationship between individual parts and their greater whole, Ingrisano will often cut his work into slivers of paper and then reconstitute them in new configurations.
