Tony Ray Jones

Photographer Tony Ray-Jones took most of his images of the British at work and leisure between 1966 and 1969. Travelling around Britain, he recorded the unguarded moments of people from all sections of British society with a distinctive and highly individual style, combining both sadness and humor. Ray-Jones stated that his goal as a photographer was to capture a specifically British aura, especially the people's nostalgia and humor. The development of British documentary art photography has been greatly influenced by Ray-Jones, and he has helped to shape the future of British photography through his promotion of photography as a fine art form.
