Alexis Courtney

Alexis Courtney is an American artist working in photography, video, and installation. Her work explores the innate need for connection to others and to the physical world. Her attempts at portraying an environment both physically and metaphysically aim to challenge stereotypes, expectations and perceptions of familiarity within everyday occurrences. They are an investigatory look at identify, vulnerability, discomfort and failure.

Courtney’s work has been exhibited in New York, San Francisco, Copenhagen, Miami, Brooklyn, Berkeley, Richmond and Seattle. She was recently published in Der Greif Issue #9. She participated in Arteles Creative Residency Program in Finland in 2014 and was awarded the Honorable Mention ArtSlant Prize in 2013.
