Anna Fox

Artist Anna Fox has worked in the fields of photography and video for nearly 30 years. Fox was born in an English village and continues to live in Farnham, Surrey, and her work is strongly influenced by small town environments. She is especially interested in the concept of performance in relation to this type of lifestyle and in the faces people wear in small communities. While Fox is influenced by the British documentary tradition, she does not consider herself a documentary photographer. Instead, Fox sees the communities as opportunities for responding to common life through creative means.

Fox's first notable exhibition, Work Stations: Office Life in London (1988), a response to office culture during Margaret Thatcher's time in office, brought her attention and critical acclaim. In addition to her own practice, Fox is a Professor of Photography at the University of Creative Arts, Farnham.
