Every object has, besides its intended function, an inner logic, one where their native materiality seldom come to light. The artist Albrecht Schäfer (* 1967) who lives in Berlin, elicits his objects in a way that brings out exactly those hidden qualities and guides them - in that he allows them simply to be - to form new, surprising and illuminating connections. Schäfer brings to life two roofing planks, whose intended function would be to strenuously hold the heavy load of roof tiles, bending them into the pose like that of a ballerina. In this prima ballerina position, they stand daintily and proud as if on stage. IN a simple but precise choreography, they elegantly embrace the space, toe for toe.
