Aleksandra Domanović

Aleksandra Domanović looks at the history and development of technology through a gender-conscious lens. Her work specifically focuses on the point at which the machine meets, interfaces and touches the human user. Domanović focuses on the intersection of a technological future and the marginalized representation of women in popular culture. She often uses film, literature, fantasy and science fiction as a form of source material for prints of objects that interact or contribute to an important part of the female characters’ narrative. Attempting to break the barriers of female representation, typically shown as mother, love interest or victim, Domanović re-contextualizes the narrative of her protagonists.

Domanović was a finalist for the OHO award, Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2011. Solo shows include Tanya Leighton Gallery, Berlin, Germany, SPACE, London, Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, Germany, and Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow. She has also exhibited in numerous group shows such as Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien, Graz, Austria, ICP Triennial, New York, USA, Tramway, Glasgow, UK, and Lukas Feichtner Gallery, Vienna, Austria.
