Charlotte Klobassa

Charlotte Klobassa (b. 1987) is a painter based in Vienna, Austria. Initially trained as a fashion designer, Klobassa's paintings utlizie similar principles of design, and each minute detail is deliberate. Her work balance delicately along the thin line between order and disorder. In her series 'Scribble,' Klobassa draws inspiration from the small pieces of paper found at art shops, where people test out pens and markers. Transforming these small found objects into large-scale paintings speaks to the properties of unconscious, impulsive composition vs. calculated creation, and embody a feeling of immediacy. Her paintings are deceptively simple and appear abstract, however upon consideration, the works appear figurative, and exemplify Klobassa's a keen eye for detail.

Klobassa graduated with honours from the University of Applied Arts, where she studied with Judith Eisler. Her work has been exhibited internationally in group shows, at galleries including Heiligenkreuzer Hof in Vienna; Künstlerhaus Vienna; Splinters and Logs in Brooklyn, New York; Galerie Meyer Kainer in Vienna; and more.
