Courtney Adair Johnson

Courtney Adair Johnson is an artist and curator based in Nashville, TN. Her art practice works to create sustainable communities through reuse awareness. She is interested in creating new ideas with art to generate awareness of our waste and consumption habits. She is presently Gallery Director of Tennessee State University Art Department and Co-Builder of McGruder Social Practice Artist Residency (M-SPAR). “I am a reuse artist. I am interested in waste that goes through our hands on a daily basis and how we can start to look at it differently. I collect and experiment with the mundane and excess like styrofoam, floss, packaging material. Once the material is gathered, it becomes a layer to be cut, sew, or manipulated. Themes and topics of history, capitalism, health, motherhood, and love turn into bookmaking, printing, and assemblage.”
