Drew Shiflett

Before starting her collages, Drew Shiflett specialized in figure drawing. However, while applying for an MFA at the Maryland Institute College of Art, her anxiety prompted her to tear up all her drawings. Looking at the scraps, she became inspired to start collage. Shiflett's artworks are made of materials from styrofoam to cloth, metal to paper maché. Weaving and layering together these materials, Shiflett often creates three-dimensional artworks from two-dimensional objects such as handmade paper. The browns, ochres, slate gray, and beige colors that infuse her works are highly influenced by the beaches of the East Hamptons. While not staying in East Hampton, the artist can often be found in her Manhattan studio. Shiflett has exhibited all over the United States, and she is a recipient of multiple grants and awards including the Guggenheim Fellowship Award.
