Edgar Arceneaux

Los Angeles-based artist Edgar Arceneaux constructs drawings, installations, video, and film works as complex arrangements of association that examine adjacencies and points of contact between implausible relations. From 1999 to 2012 Arceneaux served as Director of the Watts House Project, an artist-driven neighborhood redevelopment project centered around the historic Watts Towers. Arceneaux and art historian Sue Bell Yank co-founded WHP as an organization in 2009. Arceneaux cares about the relationship between art and the social space and has committed his professional life to its exploration.

Arcenaux has most recently been featured in solo shows at Maccarone Gallery in New York, NY (2012); the Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel, Switzerland (2011); the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit (2011); and Praz-Delavallade, Paris, France (2011). His past exhibitions include solo shows at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Linz, Austria (2006); the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam (2004); the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2005); and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles (2003). He was included in both the 2008 California Biennial at the Orange County Museum of Art and the 2008 Whitney Biennial. Edgar Arceneaux is represented by the Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects, Los Angeles, California.
