Fairfield Porter

Faifield Porter is recognized as one of America's most influential 20th century painters.  By creating representational works during the dominance of Abstract Expressionism, Porter is credited for keeping Realism alive.  After college, he studied under painter Thomas Hart Benton at the Art Students League of New York.

His urban and nature influenced works continue to be celebrated for highlighting the extraordinary in common, daily life, as can be seen in his print Broadway.  Regarding his practice, Porter once said, "When I paint, I think that what would satisfy me is to express what Bonnard said Renoir told him: make everything more beautiful."
