Fausta Facciponte

The artist Fausta Facciponte creates art guided by the notion of "memento mori," the philosophical intimation of death that translates from the Latin to mean "remember that you are mortal." Drawing inspiration from the old and the forgotten, she discovers her subject matter in piles of discarded and vintage items, as seen in her ongoing series Lost and Found. The emphasis on the inevitable passing of time and its concomitant decay allows the artist to call attention to the importance of what's lasting, or even transcendent, in life.

Facciponte utilizes a variety of photographic techniques, often layering levels of digital photographs to accent details otherwise not easily accessible and simultaneously leaving imperfections intact, thereby adhering to the emphasis on the fragile nature of objects. Her art has been exhibited at institutions from Japan's Kariya City Museum to the Art Gallery of Peel in Ontario.
