Hughie O'Donoghue

British-Irish artist Hughie O’Donoghue has been exhibiting internationally since 1982, gaining a reputation as one of the leading painters of his generation. His paintings, prints, and drawings reflect his deep identification with his father’s experiences as a soldier in World War II in Europe, with an equally profound homage to the heroic tradition in Western painting, and national history. His representations of the human body and the landscape tend to be surreal and highly abstracted.

O’Donoghue’s paintings are included in many public collections, including the National Gallery, London, the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, and the Arts Council of England, London. His work has been exhibited in group and soloshows internationally, including Gemeentemuseum, The Hague, DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, Prague, Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris, Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, and Royal Academy, London.
