Jim Lambie makes colorful sculptural installations with objects appropriated from everyday pop culture—album covers, household objects, plastic buttons, repurposed chairs. He also frequently uses brightly colored vinyl tape in his site-specific installations, demarcating the space of a gallery and countering the austere white-cube environment with exuberant color and unexpected materials.
Lambie received his graduate degree from the Glasgow School of Art in 1994. His work has been shown internationally at such venues as Seoul’s Atelier Hermès, Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, the Glasgow Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo’s Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, and Washington’s Hirshhorn Museum, among others. In addition to his sculptural work, Lambie is as a musician and DJ. He lives and works in Glasgow.
