Judith Gilbert's photos in color and in black-and-white explore the details, urgencies and subtleties of the urban cityscape and city life. Her photographic portraits depart from convention and present subjects in authentic yet often unusual situations. Her works in mixed media, collages, sculptures and installations are vibrant, humorous and informed by found objects from daily urban life, often infused with references to antiquity or icons of modern culture. Judith Gilbert's art and photography has been the subject of solo exhibitions at private, governmental and commercial venues in and around Munich, including Dorfen City Hall and the Galerie Bernhard Förth, and have been met with critical acclaim in the German press.

Gilbert was born into a show business family in New York. Her formal training in the visual arts and photography began in the theater, as an assistant to Broadway scenic and lighting designers. After her university studies of art and German, she became an editor of art and photography books and magazines as well as exhibition catalogues for various publishers in Munich. Her editorial focus increasingly turned to layout, graphic design and pictorial language. Gilbert's photographs have appeared in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Münchner Merkur and Mittelbayerische Zeitung newspapers, as well in a variety of German magazines. Today she is a fine art photographer and visual artist based outside of Munich.
