Inspired by the minimalist traditions of Ellsworth Kelly and Kenneth Noland, Justin Adian allows his Texas upbringing to ground his art in the landscape and attitude of the Southwest. Creating puffy geometrical forms by stretching canvas over ester foam, Adian’s work exists somewhere between the boundaries of painting and sculpture. Embodying a punk-rock spirit, his works demonstrates a looseness, effervescence, and playfulness in their unique form and unexpected color. Titling each work with a moniker not necessarily associated with its composition, Adian enhances the idea of humor and the narrative that inspires the comprehension of his pieces. He believes a transformation occurs once his objects have left the safe space of his studio and ventured out into the world. Adian’s work has been exhibited at various galleries, including those in Toronto, Berlin, and Brooklyn.
