Karen Lederer

Inspired by Marimekko fabric, Matisse still-life paintings, household objects, Picasso ceramics, print advertisement, monoprints, and Instagram, Karen Lederer's playful, eclectic work merges art historical imagery with contemporary, Millenial references. Matisse's iconic goldfish swim in a gradient-drenched fishtank, accompanied by a can of La Croix soda—the Coca-Cola for Generation Z. Lederer also combines painting and print techniques, creating a spatial disorientation that denies stability.

Karen Lederer has received the SIP Award from the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop Program at The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, and was an artist in residence at the Keyholder Residency Program at the Lower East Side Printshop. She is also a studio recipient from the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program. Her work has recently been featured in exhibitions at Anya Tish Gallery, Houston; Grant Wahlquist Gallery, Portland, Maine (solo); Field Projects, New York (solo); Danese/Corey, New York; The Wythe Hotel, New York; and Cuevas Tilleard, New York. Her work has been written about in The Chart, Brooklyn Magazine, ArtFile Magazine, Arte Fuse, New American Paintings, and Maake Magazine.
