Katrina Blannin

British painter Katrina Blannin is known for precise geometric compositions that use repeated patterns and motifs to explore variations of color and tone. Blannin is influenced by Constructivism and the 1969 artist collective Systems Group, whose conceptual work delved into notions of probability, accident and chaos. Using a set of self-imposed mathematical guidelines, Blannin creates geometric collages and drawings that act as the basis for her dynamic paintings. Speaking of her paintings, Blannin says, “symmetry and asymmetry are essential considerations…Working with a series of permutations, sequences or with mirror images, rather than a single image, can inspire ideas about movement.

Blannin has exhibited her variations in a number of institutions including Price and Myers, London, Eleven Spitalfields Gallery, London, Beedel Coram of Spitalfields, London, and a number of others throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. She was a selected exhibitor for the 2012 John Moores Painting Prize, the co-editor of Turps Banana magazine and the co-director of Lion & Lamb Gallery, London.
