Marc Brandenburg

Known for his delicate pencil drawings reminiscent of photograph negatives, the work of Marc Brandenburg comes across like “snapshots from a bizarre parallel world.” Examining fair grounds, football fans, public demonstrators, pop stars and other examples of iconography and cultural event, Brandenburg filters each real-life scenario through a reflective, graphite lens. Says Brandenburg of his methods, “there is nothing imaginative in my work, the imagery is connected strictly to everyday life. The work kind of functions like a psychedelic documentary.”

Brandenburg has exhibited in a number of solo and group shows including Museum of Modern Art, Frankfurt, Contemporary Fine Arts, Berlin, Kunsthalle, Hamburg, Paul Morris Gallery, New York, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Paris, France, City Museum and Art Gallery, Bristol, The Studio Museum Harlem, New York.
