María Berrio

Characterized by her use of bold colors and flat figuration, Maria Berrio's works merge the realistic and the fantastic, constructing fanciful new worlds. In her Dreams series, richly textured, sculptural surfaces are swathed in color, making use of Japanese papers to create mixed-media works. Her attenuated figures often reflect an ethereal air, merging with otherworldly settings. Berrio has exhibited her works at a number of institutions, including the Parsons School of Design and the Chelsea Art Museum.
