Mariana Manhães
The strange character of Mariana Manhães’s machines occurs in the system created by the artist, mixing various materials and techniques in order to compose these foreign bodies. The organic machines, in which everything is related, linked, and stimulated in a language of their own, have no apparent logic. Drawing, photography, and collage along with other media are worked experimentally and complement the process of their installations. They insist on not distinguishing themselves, reiterating the systematic and relational aspect of their work.
Manhães has exhibited in several museums and galleries in Brazil and abroad, such as MuBE (São Paulo), Vancouver Biennale (Vancouver, Canada), ShanghArt Gallery (Shanghai, China), The Mattress Factory Museum (Brussels, Belgium), Banco do Brasil Cultural Center (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Brasília), Martin-Gropius-Bau Museum (Berlin, Germany), Instituto Itaú Cultural (São Paulo), Tomie Ohtake Institute , Museum of Modern Art (Rio de Janeiro), Museum of Modern Art of Bahia (Salvador), Vale do Rio Doce Museum (Vila Velha), Galerie GP + N Vallois and Natalie Seroussi (Paris, France), amongst others.
