Martin Neumaier

Pages from textbooks and science books from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries are the support material for Martin Neumaier’s multilayered collages. Graphic elements layered over printed ink on tattered pages mix to form dynamic, cross-cultural superimpositions that examine European colonialism and imperialism. Materials from vastly differing times and contexts become reinterpreted, adapted, and redefined in their processing, ultimately recombining to form constructivist and abstract imagery.

German-born Neuman was the Awardee of the 1822 Kunstpreis in Frankfurt and the Travel Grant of the Hessische Kulturstiftung, also in Frankfurt. He has held solo exhibitions with Galerie Kai Erdmann in Hamburg and Parisa Kind in Frankfurt.
