Paolo Cirio

Paolo Cirio earned a degree from the University of Turin in 2005, where his dissertation on performance in information spaces drew on his experience as a media activist. He was awarded a Rhizome Commission in 2006 for Google Will Eat Itself, a collaboration in which artists used money made from Google ads to buy the company’s shares. He has organized urban interventions in several cities, with illegal exhibitions that blocked off streets. Cirio’s installations for more conventional venues make common settings and visuals unfamiliar, like airport security checkpoints and corporate logos, to heighten awareness of the limits imposed by power structures.
