Patrick Scott

Patrick Scott has exhibited extensively both in Ireland and internationally. He studied architecture at University College Dublin and after graduation in 1945 worked with the architect Michael Scott. His training in architecture is reflected in his strict use of formal and distinctive symbols. Scott travelled extensively in China and Japan, and his interest in art from these areas is expressed by the simplicity of geometric forms, the minimal use of color, and his characteristic use of line. Scott came to the medium of print relatively late in his career. Returning to motifs from his paintings, Scott's prints are a continuation of the artist’s interests and themes explored throughout his career, all created with an undeniable meditative quality.

Scott's work has been exhibited in group and solo shows, including Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin, Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin, Solas Gallery, Ballinamore, and Dublin City Gallery. In 1960 he represented Ireland at the Venice Biennale and won the Guggenheim Award. In 2007, Scott was awarded the highest honor by the Irish association of artists, Aosdána.
