Polixeni Papapetrou

Polixeni Papapetrou is a photographer who documents the fringe of society, her subjects ranging from drag queens to body builders to excerpts from Lewis Carroll stories. Indeed, her works often portray people caught in surreal settings that are at once beautiful and disarming, encouraging a deeper engagement with her subjects, and an exploration of their psychological and emotional terrain.

Papapetrou has been the subject of solo exhibitions at notable Australian institutions, including the Hellenic Museum in Melbourne, the Centre for Contemporary Photography in Melbourne, the Horsham Regional Art Gallery, and the Australian Centre for Photography in Paddington. She has also been included in international group exhibitions at Yale University Art Gallery, Princeton University Art Museum, Hanmi Museum of Photography in Seoul, as well as the Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts and National University of the Arts, both in Tapei.
